An award-winning legendary Indian musician and music director in the Tagorean tradition, Sagar Sen began recording music during the 1950s and released numerous and popular singles until his death in 1983. His music was first broadcast on All India Radio (AIR) in 1958, and he released his first album, featuring singles Ogo Joler Rani and Nupuro Beje Jaye, three years later under the Megaphone record label. Sagar Sen went on to release albums through Columbia and EMI-HMV.

Sagar Sen achieved the height of his musical fame and success in 1968 when he released the cult single Ami Jene Shune Bish Korechhi Paan. He continued to release albums on an annual basis during the 1970s through EMI-HMV and, in 1979, earned the BFJA cinematic award for Best Playback Singing of the Tagore song Aaj Jyotsnaratey Shobai Gechhey Boney in the film Parichay.

Although he was most popular in India, Sagar Sen performed his music all around the world in countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and Japan. He was also a mentor to many aspiring artists and led the Tagorean music academy Rabi Rashmi, which attracted thousands of students.
